Here’s a random ad from the Toronto 1917 city directory that I found interesting:

geo hope

It was helpful of the ad to point out in the margins that this was a Bird Store. I am still trying to figure out what the illustration in the centre is – I think it’s an angel setting birds free, but I haven’t the slightest idea.

I found nothing at all about Geo. Hope & Son, Canaries, on Google. I suppose that Geo. Hope was grateful that his son chose to follow him into the family business. Maybe it was Son’s idea to branch out into goldfish and fish globes.
